We support students fight against educational cuts in Denmark

Regarding cuts in the Danish education system

Sweden’s student councils – SVEA (Sveriges elevråd – SVEA) wishes with this statement to express its solidarity with the students of Denmark regarding the governmental cuts on the education system with 8.7 billion Danish kr.

In able for a nation to grow, there must be presumptions to build its people to become democratically engaged, individually thinking citizens of society. A presumption for this is education. Sweden and Denmark have educational similarities and differences, we think positively of these dynamics. At the same time we are convinced of the fact that educating your citizens requires financing a system that upholds teacher salaries, student participation, sustainable and preventive student health care and constantly developing pedagogical methods, amongst other things.

Sweden’s student councils – SVEA strongly recommends students and other citizens of Denmark to join in with The Education Alliance (Uddannelsesalliancen) to protest against the financial cuts in the Danish education system on October 29.
We are glad to see that The Education Alliance, just like the cooperation within the Nordic School Student Network, NSSN, emphasizes the importanceof democratically working together toward common goals. As we say in Sweden’s student council – SVEA, by cooperation you will get the furthest, with democracy you will go even further.

With these words Sweden’s student councils – SVEA wishes The Education Alliance of Denmark the best in its endeavors regarding influencing their government. A better education system in Denmark leads to more resourceful students and citizens in Denmark. More resourceful students and citizens in Denmark leads to stronger Nordic countries.

Yours sincerely,

Matilda Hellström
President
Sweden’s student councils – SVEA

"Förbundsordförande Matilda Hellström i röd tröja".
